The Friends of Yesler Swamp are being good stewards to support the hard work put forth by the UW students in fighting invasive plants. We will start near the entrance of the Yesler Swamp trail at the eastern edge of the Center for Urban Horticulture parking lot and work on the area restored by the 2011-12 Capstone students by pulling out the blackberry by gloved hands that have sprouted through the mulch from the roots that were overlooked during the restoration. We will be joined by the 2012-13 Capstone group who will be learning about the level of dedication of the friends and how to plan for stewardship when they finish their wetland restoration this spring. If number of hands allow we will also attack an area of failed 2005 restoration, and 2010-11 re-restoration nearer Surber and 41st street. The more the merrier!
